Shoebury Garrison tends to dominate people's idea of the history of Shoeburyness, but the brickfields and the railway played their part too. Both the brickfields and the railway provided much needed employment in Shoebury in the late 19th and early 20th centuries when other communities (dependent on farming) were struggling. We want to tell this story too! If you have any memories of the brickfields or the railway - perhaps members of your family worked there - please visit us at the Heritage Centre and let us know. All the stories we collect can be added to our archive to add to our collective knowledge.
Later in 2021, we plan a comprehensive exhibition about these other branches of Shoebury life: stories and photographs of brickworkers and the railways.
